Mangaluru, Jul 26: Dakshina Kannada came to a complete halt on Sunday July 26 in response to the total lockdown imposed every Sunday by the government in the wake of rising number of coronavirus casees.
As per the orders of the district administration, Dakshina Kannada district is under total lockdown from 9 pm of Saturday to 5 am of Monday.
Except medical service, milk and newspaper vending shops, all the other commercial establishments are closed.
No private vehicles are allowed on the road. A few people who were travelling by bikes and cars were stopped by the police, and only those with valid reasons were allowed to proceed. Barricades have been put up at various points in the city.
The district administation is taking the lockdown seriously in the wake of the sudden increase of cases of coronavirus infections in the district.
According to the bulletin of the health department, 218 people have tested positive for coronavirus infection on Saturday, July 25 in the district. With this, the number of infected people in the district of Dakshina Kannada has gone upto 4,612. At the same time, 140 people got discharged on Saturday after getting completely cured of the infection. So far 115 people have died of the dreaded disease. At present, 2,370 cases are still active, which has increase the anxiousness of the people of the district.
