Mangaluru: Hotel quarantine norms for international passengers revised

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jul 25: In fresh guidelines to those returning from abroad, passengers now need not undergo seven days of hotel quarantine.

Until now, international passengers returning to their hometowns were required to stay in hotels or lodges for a period of seven days followed by another seven days of home quarantine.

However they can now stay in hotels/lodges only for a day and take a rapid COVID antigen test on the second day of their return, and be home-quarantined if they test negative.

Confirming this to Daijiworld 24x7 channel, additional district health officer Dr Rathnakar said, "International passengers need not undergo seven days of hotel quarantine. Certain changes have been made in quarantine system for international passengers as well as for inter-state returnees.

"After their arrival they will be sent to their preferred hotel, as on the first day they must stay in hotel. On the second day, rapid COVID antigen test will be done and the report will be out within 30 minutes. If the report turns negative the person will be sent home for 14 days of home quarantine," he said.

"For inter-state returnees there will be no hotel or institutional quarantine. They will be sent home for 14 days of home quarantine. If symptoms develop during these 14 days, swab test will be done," said Dr Rathnakar.

How safe are Hotels? Are hotels are sanitized? Staying one day in hotel, next day covid test.. Doesn't make any sense.. People who are working abroad are traveling just coz they lost job or no money to survive.. In such a situation looting money is not a good decision. However new covid test can detect within half an hour then do the test in Airport itself.. Why hotel quarantine??
Pregnant ladies, kids and ppl with ailments are given one day hotel stay.. How safe it is?... God save your people from money making mafia and from this pandemic.

I hope the rule makers do understand the difficult situation of travellers
And do not impose the rules where they make it easy for hotelier and medical depts loot money . First of all these people arrive leaving their jobs and anxious to meet their own family here. What if they travel with negative test report and on arrival they're sent for quarantine as is required by them and ask for a test report compulsory on the 5th day as in case they're infected on their journey they can be treated for the same. Justice should prevail and all should be treated with one rule for all as Indians.

As per ICMR advisory, those who test negative for COVID-19 by rapid antigen test should be definitely tested sequentially by RT-PCR to rule out infection, whereas a positive test should be considered as a true positive and does not need reconfirmation by RT-PCR test. Further, antigen will be developed in body after 4-5 days of contracting virus. Is Medical advisors to Karnataka Government are doing their job deligently or just donating their signature over dotted lines.....?

Why this sudden U turn? The testing appears to be another formality as various studies show it's low sensitivity!
    WHO:
"How well the tests work depends on several factors, including the time from onset of illness, the concentration of virus in the specimen, the quality of the specimen collected from a person and how it is processed, and the precise formulation of the reagents in the test kits. Based on experience with antigen-based RDTs for other respiratory diseases such as influenza, in which affected patients have comparable concentrations of influenza virus in respiratory samples as seen in COVID-19, the sensitivity of these tests might be expected to vary from 34% to 80%.

Based on this information, half or more of COVID-19 infected patients might be missed by such tests, depending on the group of patients tested."

Why 14 days home quarantine for international if the test comes negative and no need to interstate.Currently major spread is through interstate and not
    international.
Anyways now all countries introduced mandatory
Covid test before departure to all destinations.

News in Times of India today:
"Data from two major civic laboratories in Mumbai shows that up to 65% of symptomatic patients who had tested negative for the novel Corona virus in antigen tests were later confirmed positive in RT- PCR testing"
If this is the case why to rely on these rapid antigen test and endanger the district population?

As I have written earlier, this is just a gimmick to pacify the common man; these antigen tests are having very low sensitivity & hence just a formality!

With predominant false negetive( about 85%) from the antigen test kit, what is the use of depending on such tests for COVID test? Is it a means for Gujju importers to recover their money invested in importing cheap Chinese antigen testing kits?
