Bengaluru, Jul 17: State health minister, B Sriramulu's comment that 'the Lord alone can save people' in the face of high number of corona infected people in the state, has been getting criticisms. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar, and leader of the opposition in the assembly, Siddaramaiah, have come down heavily on Sriramulu for this desperate statement.
Shivakumar said that the entire state is shaken by Sriramulu's statement. "Just to wrest power, they worked hard and achieved their objective. Now the minister says that he is unable to do anything about coronavirus and sought God's interference to save the situation. This is not just the statement of Sriramulu. He has voiced the opinion of the government as a whole. If they cannot protect the people, let them resign," he said.
Siddaramaiah opined that it would be prudent to seek God's grace after putting in wholehearted efforts. "But Sriramulu has issued this statement without doing any work. Let him resign and go home," he stated.
Sriramulu clarifies: As the number of his critics soared, minister Sriramulu took to twitter to clarify his position. He said that his statement has been wrongly understood. "I had said that people have to be alert and join wholeheartedly in the effort to block coronavirus. I had meant that if we stumble at this critical stage, then God's help would be required to rescue us from this situaiton," he said, adding that his statement was in the form of cautioning the people to get involved to keep the infection at bay.
