Udupi: Two patients treated for fever at private hospital, bill runs into lacs

Udupi, Jul 17: The family of two persons who got admitted into a private hospital for treatment of fever were shell-shocked when the hospital authorities produced their bill.

Rajesh and Rajeevi, members of the same family from Kalgadde near Santhekkatte, Brahmavar, suffered from fever at the same time. Because of the fear of coronavirus, they had got admitted into a well- known private hospital at Brahmavar for treatment.

As they tested corona positive, the hospital authorities asked them to be shifted to the district COVID hospital for treatment. They asked the family to bring an ambulance and take the two to Udupi after paying their bills.

The family of the patients were shocked to see that a sum of Rs 2,31,830 was charged for the two patients from a single family. The bill shows Rs 57,600 as charges for PPE kit.

    The ruling Govt & political leaders have hijacked health care in India. Govt spends 1% of GDP on health care,lowest among asian countries.Govt hospitals are in shambles thru out India.No serious illness has any hope of recovery,everywhere corruption and there is no quality. God bless India.

    I wonder why the people go to private hospitals when they can not afford the cost of treatment. It is clearly said again and again by the authorities to go to fever clinics established by the government and seek treatment tests there.

    Yesterday Dakshina Kannada district in charge minister has once again emphasized this. The private hospitals are commercial establishments and they are not free or charitable institutions. They have to make profit by selling medicines, masks and PPE kits. It is done everywhere, it is their business.
    Most of the people are informed about the estimation of treatment cost on admission itself. If can not afford they can go to cheaper facilities.

    If they go to govt hospital they will say we don't have beds. It's also said through media & newspaper leaked last month postive & negative patients are mixed on same room.

    We have a habit of remembering only one or two bad incidents and we never appreciate the good work. Please remember the doctors, nurses and other people working in government facilities are human beings with apathy and kindness. They are not cruel animals. Rarely mistakes might have happened which can also happen in private set up also.
    Lot of people are treated and are cured at government facilities. As of now we have enough beds in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district COVID designated hospitals. The medical people there do wonderful job risking their lives. Even DHO of Mangalore got admitted in Wenlock Hospital and cured. Many people have praised the facilities there. Some people can not get satisfied either in government or in private set up.
    We have an inborn apprehension about government hospitals. If one can not afford private facility, he /she has to make some compromise, some adjustment and get the benefit of government facility at free of cost.

    Simple Calculations:
    1. 48 PPE kits for 6 days = 8 per day.
    Understood 1 doctor Visit once in a day and a nurse trice a day (Giving Medicine) + 1 Aya once in a day.
    Not sure. remaining 3 who was visiting? Medical Team must think of the health of the patient pocket too. instead of going to the room of the patient together.

    2. I assume Govt. said no mask can charge above 16/-. but here 200/- ?? N95 mask is available for 95/- in the market. Which mask all these people were using.?

    3. 48 Visits, I assume they have only 2 hands. each box contains 100 Gloves. 5 * 100 = 500 Gloves. 500/48 = 10.42 per person per visit. Not sure where where and all they put Gloves :)

    Yes and by the way also some hospitals cheat the patients I have too heard and also it's going on nowadays it's also not safe in these hospitals I think as while treatment due to the negligence of some medical professionals some patients get acquainted with acquired bacteria or virus means the situation will be worsen in the health condition of patient so it's sad for us when we loose our loved ones due to such reckless stupid professionals. They don't
    know tomorrow they also have to depart from this materialistic world,Karma..

    It is really shocking the way medical fraternity started business using innocence of the people and taking the advantage of COVID 19, situation. The bill says Rs.57600 for PPE kits, where as for this price considering current market price with SITRA certification at least 175 kits can be purchased. For 6 days in what way they can use 175 PPE kits?....so disgusting......

    PPE kit will be for atleast one doctor and few nurses, cleaning personals (or we say support staff). And PPE kit has to be a good quality one to ensure no spread of virus.

    Recently a person was came to a hospital in mangalore near pump well to doscharge his father who under went by pass surgery. In the hospital....when the person upon received the bill , the person was heart attack .. bill shows more than 6 more lacs.......while father discharged son has admitted.........

    From May-June 2014 till now......CENTRAL GOVT. OF INDIA AND STATE GOVT. ONLY ONE SLOGAN IS "LOOT LO JITNA HOSAKE BHARAT DESH KI BEVAKOOF JANTA KO... JISNE HUME VOTE DIYA HAI"

    In the end.....COVID-19 handling and related treatment in India is not at all effective...Those patients have multiple diseases, then this Covid-19 virus will destroy the immune of only those patients. Otherwise normal Person with Covid-19 virus will be fine within 10 days....like normal flu.

    Learn from UAE hospitals..Yesterday they waived a hospital bill of over AED 700K (over 1 5 crore Indian Rupees) of a poor labourer from Telangana. What was once considered as a noble profession in India has now become a pure business where even poor are not spared. God only save us from these money mongers.

    The govt must define what is clinical supervisor charges and radiology charges in this decease which even in one of the news channel yesterday told same hospital bill format used to cheat carona patients. Carona has no medicine s till now but the bill even shows medicine charges . Most of the democratic country s medical systems used this carona to cheat the public without any professional ethical boundaries where as in non democratic countries perfectly handled carona with tight grip creating public friendly medical professionalism.
