Mangaluru, Jul 16: Kota Srinivas Poojary, district-in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada, has given clarification with respect to free treatment for coronavirus disease in the district. Thereby the chaos prevailed over this issue in the minds of general public is resolved.

Kota Srinivas Poojary said, "If anyone tests coronavirus positive but does not exhibit any symptoms, such people are treated at home only. However, it is important that such people should not cause inconvenience to other members of the family. So only infected person will be allowed home isolation if he or she has a separate room and washroom in the house.

"If any coronavirus positive patient does not have separate room or washroom in his or her house, such people will be treated in Covid care centres. At present there is one Covid care center in Konaje. There are plans to open some more.

"For people who are infected and display symptoms of disease, there is facility in Wenlock hospital to get treated. If there is no space in Wenlock hospital, then that patient can get treated in hospitals specified by the government.

"Those who go to private hospitals directly due to sickness have to mandatorily inform the matter to the Covid officer specified for that particular hospital. Through this method, free treatment can be obtained in private hospital that are specified by government. District administration is in discussion with private hospital managements to reserve 100 beds.

"Free coronavirus infection test can be done at Wenlock hospital. Apart from this, there is no facility to get free testing done in any of the private hospitals. However, keeping in mind, people arriving from far off places of the district, discussion will be held at government level to collect free swab samples in private hospitals.

"For example, if a person from Sullia gives his swab for testing at a private hospital at Sullia, then the test of the sample will be done in Wenlock hospital. However, discussion will be held to bear the PPP kit cost of private hospital by the government. At present there is no decision taken to this effect," he said.

The minister says if there is no space in Wenlock the patient can get
treatment in private hospitals. The minister also says if the the patient
directly goes to private hospital he should inform the Covid officer
in the hospital to avail free treatment. Does it mean that one can visit
private hospital directly without first going to Wenlock? Further the
minister has stated that 100 beds are being negotiated with private
hospitals. So private beds are not available yet?

The COVID19 positive individual who needs to be admitted for moderate or severe illness has to go to government facility. If there are no beds such individual will be directed to private hospitals where the cost of treatment will be borne by the government. For this, the government has specified the rates- such as in general ward for Ayushman Bharat Rs 5200 and for others it is Rs 10,000/= per day will be paid by the government. If ICU admission is needed the expenses will be more. THESE RATES ARE ONLY FOR THOSE WHO ARE REFERRED BY THE GOVERNMENT FACILITIES FOR LACK OF BEDS.
If one goes directly to private hospitals, the rates are not fixed or paid by the government. They are fixed by the individual private hospitals and are available on admission.

Thank you Mr. John, that is much informative.

I am sure each and every one will approach a Govt hospital praying that it's full and he/she is referred to a private hospital. Because the only govt hospital in Mangaluru is no less than an execution chamber, entering it alive has all likelihood of coming out as a corpse.
