Puttur, Jul 10: The government has listed certain private hospitals for treating people infected with coronavirus. But Puttur Hospitals Association has expressed difficulties treating the corona patients.

Representatives of the association handed over a memorandum to the government on Thursday July 9 through assistant commissioner, Dr Yatsh Ullal.
The association pointed out that for providing treatment to COVID-19 patients, the hospitals need to have certain special facilities. "The mofussil taluk centre private hospitals do not have such systems in place. Therefore, we request the government to understand our inability to treat them," the memorandum says.

The association said that it fully supports the government's action in converting government hospitals into exclusive COVID hospitals and treating corona patients there. "We fully support this move. We will treat other ailments like dengue, malaria etc. We are agreeable to earmark beds for the treatment of people displaying coronavirus symptoms but the test results are negative showing symptoms of other diseases," the association explained. It said that for treating coronavirus infected people, separate isolation ward, separate intensive care units etc are required. As Puttur has a single specialty and senior doctors, admitting COVID patients as inpatients are impossible. It also poses a challenge of treating in a way that the infection does not spread to others. This problem does not bother government hospitals which have been converted into COVID Hospitals," the association said.

The assistant commissioner, who received the memorandum, said that he would bring this to the notice of the deputy commissioner. Association vice president, Dr Bhaskar Rao, secretary, Dr Subrahamanya Joshi, treasurer, Dr Ashok Padival, doctors, Dr Florina, Dr J C Adiga, and Dr Ravishankar, were present.
