Udupi, Jul 9: “The Kumaraswamy-led coalition government has waived loans by national banks and cooperative banks to farmers. However, the cooperative banks and national banks in several places in the district are insisting that farmers repay the loan. Therefore, the deputy commissioner should immediately issue a clarification in this regard,” requested district Kisan Congress to the deputy commissioner.
“Farmers in the district are already facing problems for agriculture due to the scarcity of labour caused by corona lockdown. Harassing for repayment of the loan in such situations is severely condemnable. The deputy commissioner should take legal action against bank officials who press farmers to repay loans. The district administration will be solely responsible if the farmers leave their land barren or commit suicide due to such pressure from banks. Therefore, the deputy commissioner should take suitable action and issue a statement to avoid problems to the farmers,” stated district Kisan Congress president, Ellooru Shashidhar Shetty, vice-president Shekar Kotian Udyavara, Kisan Congress state committee members, Nagappa Kottary Vandse, Roy Merwin Fernandes, Udupi, Udaya Shetty Karkala and Prabhaker Naik Baindoor in their written request.
