Puttur, Feb 23: Ganga puja ritual and Matr Sangama programme were held at the confluence of rivers, Netravati and Kumaradhara here on Sunday February 21 under the auspices of Sri Madhava Shishu mandira Samiti and Matr mandali.
Speaking on the occasion, Canara College lecturer Pramila Rao said that our’s is a culture to revere mother Earth. A mother’s role goes beyond giving life to a child. It is very important that mother also inculcates right values in children, she said.
The happiness that is derived on sacrificing self-interest for family is the ultimate, she said and called on children to look after old parents and not confine them to an orphanage or old-age home.
Presiding over the programme, A J vatsala emphasized on the importance of pollution-free river for pure drinking water, which is a lifeline. She also stressed on importance of values over material cravings.
Babu and Lalita couple representing samiti took part as the main celebrants in the puja ritual. It was a beautiful scenario to witness as many as 1,000 participants floating diyas in the river as part of the ritual.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh dakshina pranta karyavaha Dr Prabhakar Bhat was present.
