Mangaluru: Tipper driver accused of murdering wife traced, arrested

Mangaluru, Jul 6: Ganesh Kumar (35) from Kavoor, a tipper driver by profession, who has been charged with killing by pushing his wife down a stone quarry on the night of July 1 near Antonikatte, Karambaru near Bajpe and had disappeared thereafter, has been found and arrested by the police.

Kavoor police inspector, Raghava Padil, led a police team after getting specific information that the accused was on the move by motorbike on Sunday, and took him into custody from near Kavoor.

Ganesh had escorted his wife, Shantha (30), out of their home at Kavoor on July 1 evening. It is said that he took her to a stone quarry for which he worked, and pushed her down the quarry, killing her instantly. The matter came to the notice of Kavoor police after he called his mother-in-law the next day to confess that he had murdered his wife. The lady's helmet and purse were found at the spot where the lady was killed.

Ganesh had told his mother-in-law, who was with him for the time being, and his two children before leaving home, that they would be back after moving around for sometime. But both did not return. The police said that the accused has claimed that he murdered his wife as he suspected her character.

The murder accused is a native of Malipatna in Arkalgud taluk, Hassan district. He was produced before the magistrate after which he was remanded to two days police custody as he needs to be tested for coronavirus infection.

    The crime committed by this rascal is a very heinous one resulting in the two offsprings of him being orphaned. Quick trial n a harsh severe punishment shud be awarded.
