Mangaluru, Jul 6: A pregnant lady had got herself admitted into a hospital here. During the course of checks, the hospital found that she had coronavirus infection. The hospital was unwilling therefore, to treat her. However, after MLA and former minister, U T Khader, intervened and put efforts, the hospital agreed to admit her for delivery.
The woman in question had got herself admitted into the said hospital for delivery. On Sunday, the doctors got her tested and the result of coronavirus test was positive. Therefore, the hospital authorities refused to handle this case.
The family of the lady brought this to the notice of Khader. The MLA got into touch with some private hospitals but none of them were willing to admit the lady. He then contacted the deputy commissioner of the district.
By then, the management of the hospital which earlier had refused to handle the case, agreed to take care of the lady. By evening, the woman gave birth to a baby, Khader explained.
Khader has urged the district administration to hold meetings of private and government hospital managements to discuss the issue and frame guidelines on the issue of admitting pregnant ladies who test positive for coronavirus. He said that this has become necessary to mitigate the hardships faced by the patients at the last minute.
