Kundapur, Feb 21: Non-violence as preached by Mahatma Gandhi is the best answer for any kind of violence, said thinker Jayaprakash Shetty.
He was speaking at the programme Belakina Shraddhanjali organized by Sahamata to pay homage to the people who lost their lives in Pune blast at Shastri circle here on Saturday February 20. He alleged that global capitalists were behind communal disturbances and the incidents are masterminded to benefit capitalists. He called on the youth not to be misled by such forces.
Opposing violence by naxals, Shetty said that such organizations are misleading the poor in the name of social justice killing innocent policemen. Such movements encourage youth from poor family to massacre poor people. Ultimately it is the poor and downtrodden, who are the sufferers, he observed.
Stating that non-violence preached by Buddhism is the only way to bring back harmony in the world, Shetty said that the way the Buddhists all over the world bore the pain non-violently when Bamiyan Buddhas were destroyed by Talibans in Afghanistan.
Advocate Ratnakar said that increase in the incidents of communal disturbances is in turn encouraging the spread of terrorism. Communal disturbances and terrorism are the two faces of the same coin, he added.
Presiding over the programme, Sahamata head Valerian Menezes said that religion and faith should within oneself and not in buildings and idols. It is through humanity and harmony that violence should be faced head-on.
DSS leader Gopalakrishna was present.
