Mangaluru, Jul 3: Over 38 people including CCB police in Ullal limits, Ullal municipal council member, former president of the municipal council, BJP leader, Ullal municipal council security guard and 28 other people who had undergone random tests have tested positive for coronavirus. With them, the number of infected people within ten days from June 23 has shot up to 109.
A 36-year-old woman from Mukkacheri, 5-year-old child from Azad Nagar, 28-year-old youth from Pilar Darandabagilu Kuchugudde, a 66-year-old man from Azad Nagar, 45-year-old CCB policeman from Thokkottu Hosagadde, 28-year-old man from Ullal Kodi, women aged 27 years and 28 years, a 23-year-old man from primary contact, 44-year-old man from Mukkacheri, 62-year-old man from Thokkottu smart city, 30-year-old woman from Someshwar, Ambikaroad, 43-year-old man from Ullal Subhashnagar, two 52-year-old men from Bastipadpu, 35-year-old watchman of Ullal municipal council, 40-year-old man from Bhagavatinagar, 50-year-old man from Mogaveerapatna, 27-year-old man from Ullal Kodi by primary contact, 40-year-old man from Kodi Kotepur, 47-year-old municipal council member, 27-year-old man from Munnoor Santhoshnagar, 33-year-old man from Kodi, 40-year-old man from Azad Nagar, 69-year-old former president of municipal council, Pilar Permannur resident, 32-year-old man from Madoor, 47-year-old man from Thokkottu smart city, 51-year-old man, BJP leader, 74-year-old Mukkacheri resident, 38-year-old man from Azad Nagar, 35-year-old woman from Kodi, 32-year-old woman from Bandikotta, 58-year-old man from Alekala, Ullal, 42 and 45-year-old men from Ombattukere, 58-year-old man residing near Tippu Sultan College, 23-year-old man from Dharmanagar and 45-year-old man residing at Thokkottu cross road have contracted the virus.
Works at the municipal council have been suspended since Friday morning after a council member and watchman tested positive for the virus. The functions in the council office will remain suspended till July 7 so that the office can be sanitized. The infection was found in several people in Ullal soon after a woman died of the virus on June 23. The officials conducted random tests on 120 people after the incident. 28 people among them tested positive. This has caused panic among the people. Shops throughout Ullal functioned only till afternoon on Friday. A voluntary bandh was observed in Kallapu part under the leadership of a former member of the municipal council on Friday. Shopkeepers and rickshaw drivers cooperated in creating awareness.
Three civic workers working in Ullal council limits have tested positive for the virus. It includes a 32-year-old man residing in Madoor who served as a driver in the vehicle of the civic workers. It also included a 30-year-old woman residing at Someshwar, Ambikaroad and a 36-year-old woman from Vamanjoor who are employed as civic workers in Ullal.
MLA U T Khader said that deaths may increase if random tests are not conducted. Over 400 samples have been collected in Ullal out of which 85 are likely to be positive. “Those who are found positive need not worry. They will recover if the distance is maintained for ten days. Precautions are to be taken to prevent the outbreak. People of all religions, traders and rickshaw drivers are observing voluntary bandh and creating awareness. Workshops to create awareness and educate people will be held through voluntary organisations in the future,” said MLA U T Khader.
