Mangalore, Feb 20: The post graduate department of English, St Aloysius College (autonomous) organised "EngQuest 20Ten", an inter-collegiate literary fest on Friday February 19. As many as 10 colleges affiliated to Mangalore University took part in the one-day fest.
The fest was inaugurated by Dr Manjula K T, principal, Besant Women's College. In her inaugural address she stressed on the importance of discovering new arenas of English language and applauded the efforts of the organisers in this regard. The programme was presided over by Fr Swebert D'Silva SJ, principal of St Aloysius College, in the presence of Dr A Lourdusamy, the convener of the fest and Anisa Fathima of II MA English, the student coordinator.
A total of five events were conducted as part of the fest: Prologue (icebreaker), Jekyll & Hyde (turn coat), Innovatif (creative writing), In-Quiz-itive (literature and language quiz) and Theatrix (one-act play). Alva's College, Moodbidri won the overall championship while Besant Women's College secured the runners-up spot. The undergraduate students of St Aloysius College were also part of the fest in a participatory role.
A short presentation on the English departments of St Aloysius College was given Jerrin of III BA just before the valedictory.
The valedictory was held at 4 pm on the same day. Fr Walter D'Mello, vicar of Milagres Church was the chief guest while Prof Ronald Pinto, vice-principal of St Aloysius College presided. Fr D'Mello also gave away the prizes to the winners. Bhavya of II MA English welcomed the gathering while student coordinator Anisa Fathima proposed the vote of thanks.
The PG department of English of St Aloysius College was started in July 2008. This was the first time that the department organised its own inter-collegiate fest.
