Mysuru, Jul 2: Dung and urine of cows belonging to certain native species are widely used in remedies prescribed as per Ayurveda system to treat a number of ailments. Based on this finding, an awareness campaign has been launched in the city, seeking to tackle the challenge posed by coronavirus infection, with the help of cow dung and urine.

This campaign has been started by Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum and Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota.

The organizations had planned to launch the campaign from in front of the residence of rationalist Prof K S Bhagwan at Udayaravi Road in Kuvempunagar in the city on Wednesday July 1. The police stopped the activists from doing so as prior permission had not been obtained.

Later, the programme was held in front of the house of K S Shivaramu, president of the above forum. The front yard of Shivaramu's house was sanitised as per Hindu customs with the help of cow dung and urine.

Dr V S Somashekhar Gowda, who is the force behind the 'Green Karnataka' concept, speaking after launching the campaign, recalled that the elders in the family had found a domestic solution to the plague which appeared in1968. "They tamed the plague by mopping the house floor with a mixture of dung, cow urine, turmeric and neem leaves. We should also bring coronavirus under control by using this method," he advised.

K N Shivaramu said that chances of spread of infectious diseases gets substantially reduced if a mixture of neem leaves, turmeric and cow dung is used to clean the floor in front of houses. He said that the houses and surroundings should be kept clean and personal hygiene should be maintained to destroy coronavirus.
