Mangaluru, Jul 2: Flights organised by the central government under its Vande Bharat Mission and chartered flights have been bringing back resident Indians and those who got stranded during their temporary visits at various countries. However, Kannadigas from Karnataka coast who have been desperately waiting to be flown back home, had only disappointment in store.
For the Kannadigas stranded in Kuwait, only one direct flight had been arranged to Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The flights booked thereafter got cancelled one after the other because of different reasons.

At last, due to the efforts made by former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and MP Shobha Karandlaje, the state government has set July 4 as the date for a direct chartered flight from Kuwait to the city.
A chartered flight carrying people from Karnataka struck at Kuwait was to fly to the city four days back. The flight, arranged with the efforts put on by Kuwait Kerala Muslim organisation, had also dawn the support of Dakshina Kannada district administration and IndiGo. The flight was cancelled at the last minute. It was said that the state government's clearance had not been given. People who had given up their rented accommodation in expectation of returning to India were left repenting. Now, under a fresh effort launched under the leadership of Capt Ganesh Karnik, Kuwait Kannadigas will be able to return to the city. In the past, chartered flights from Kuwait to Bengaluru had arrived on June 2 and to Mangaluru on June 17.
