Bengaluru, Jul 1: Coronavirus has been tightening its grip in the state with each passing day. It is learnt that for the first time, the state government is considering the prospects of conducting a population-based sero-survey in both Bengaluru and Udupi.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has already conducted sero-survey all over the country. It is said that on similar lines, the state health and family welfare department has decided to conduct the said survey. On the basis of the recommendations of the COVID-19 technical advisory committee, the government is said to have decided to conduct serosurvey in the state.
The survey will be conducted on a specific, model size of the people. The survey will cover high income, middle income, and low-income groups. The survey will measure the spread of coronavirus in the state and speed with which it has been spreading. The officials say that based on the experience of conducting surveys at Bengaluru and Udupi, similar surveys will be extended to the entire state.
It had been decided earlier to start the survey during the first week of July. As of now, the survey is expected to begin on July 15. An official in the health and family welfare department Dr Prakash B G, said that for the survey, the survey teams will need rapid antibody test and RT-PCR kits.
