Udupi: Billady village panchayat wins award for successful implementation of MGNREGS

Udupi, Jul 1: Billady village panchayat has bagged the first prize in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

The awards ceremony was conducted at the general body meeting on Tuesday, June 30. Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu and MLA Raghupati Bhat handed over the prize to Prashanth PDO of Billady village panchayat.

When the lockdown was in force, the panchayat had generated employment for 8627 person-days, under the leadership of Prithviraj Shetty including panchayat members and villagers. The village panchayat also rejuvenated eight old ponds and upgraded two agriculture streams and dug 12 wells under the MGNREGS scheme.  The award was presented recognising the activities undertaken by the panchayat.
