Tumakuru, Jul 1: Law and parliamentary affairs minister, J C Madhuswamy, who has the uncanny habit of courting one or the other controversy, is in the news again.
The minister's odd behaviour with the farmer leaders on June 29 when different farmer organizations were togther holding a protest opposite the office of the district deputy commissioner here has come in for flak.
The farmers holding the protest, alleged that the central and state governments have been implementing anti-farmer laws by making changes to the APMC Act, Land Reforms Act, Power, Seeds Act etc. On Monday, the farmers had come together in front of the office of the deputy commissioner here.
Madhuswamy, who had attended a meeting in the office of the deputy commissioner, came to the protesters to receive their memorandum. When they were about to present a memorandum, the minister, in his enthusiasm to provide an explanation on behalf of the government, behaved haughtily with veteran environmentalist from the district, C Yatiraju. The farmers shouted at the minister to condemn him. Deputy commissioner, Dr K Rakesh Kumar, who realised that the situation was going out of hand, intervened and succeeded in bringing the situation under control. The minister, after exchanging strong words with the protesters, angrily went to his car and got seated. After the deputy commissioner calmed him down, he came back and received the memorandum from the farmers.
A video clip of the minister's behaviour has become viral. The minsiter has been drawing a lot of criticism for his behaviour.
