Bengaluru: Chinnaswamy cricket stadium blasts - Two sentenced, fined

Bengaluru, Jul 1: A special court in the city, on Tuesday, June 30, delivered a judgement awarding imprisonment and fine to two of the accused relating to blasts which went off at Chinnaswamy cricket stadium here where an IPL match was scheduled.

Two of the accused have been awarded eight years of imprisonment each and a fine of Rs 4 lac. Those held guilty in the case are Aftab Alam alias Farooq, and Ahmed Jamal, both members of the terrorist organization, Indian Mujahideen.

The blasts had gone off near Chinnaswamy stadium in 2010.

Four persons including an accomplice of Yaseen Bhatkal had confessed before the court about their involvement with the crime. They were awarded seven-year sentences in the year 2018. Aftab and Ahmed Jamal have now been sentenced. The court continues to hear cases against four remaining accused in the case.
