Mangaluru: 12 people including seven members of family infected in Ullal

Mangaluru, Jun 30: 12 people including seven members of a family in Ullal have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Two staff members of Ullal police station also tested positive for the virus. With this, the number of police personnel and home guards infected with the virus has shot up to 10.

A woman, a Ullal Azad Nagar resident had succumbed to the virus a week ago. The throat swabs of seven members of her family were sent for lab tests. Their results have come back positive. A local sweet shop proprietor was infected by a young man residing in Azad Nagar. A private hospital employee staying at Nithyadhar Nagar and a resident of Manjanadi village, Mangalanti and employed at Lady Goschen hospital also contracted the infection.

After coming in contact with the Ullal police station over 16 people have tested positive for the virus. It also includes 10 police station personnel, two home guards, a rural police station staff and three suspects who are under investigation in an attempted murder case.

The swabs of 120 people including rickshaw drivers, fish traders, roadside vendors were sent for testing on Tuesday. The swabs were collected in the leadership of programme officer Dr Rathnakar and Ullal primary health centre medical officer Dr Prashanth Ameen in Ullal Municipal Council premises. More tests will be conducted in the nearby mosque from Wednesday, July 1.

Police inspector helps colleagues placed in quarantine:

Moodbidri police station inspector and team provided food to their colleagues who have been placed under quarantine in Ullal. The team arrived from Moodbidri police station which is 50 km away for the purpose and provided items of daily use. Over 12 staff members of Ullal police station were already infected. The remaining staff members have been placed in quarantine at a private building in Ullal. The Moodbidri police officer was praised by the Ullal police personnel for his gesture.
