Bangalore, Feb 19: When a case filed by the employees of Airports Authority of India, who have been demanding for the reopening of the HAL Airport in the city, which was closed for commercial operations in May 2008, came up for hearing before a high court division bench on Wednesday February 17, one of the judges of the bench termed Bangalore International Airport as worse than that of a Jatka stand.
At the same hearing, Bangalore International Airport Ltd came under criticism by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), when it termed various statements and figures furnished by the company to the court as false. Appearing for the AAI, its general manager, D P Singh, alleged that the BIAL study appears to have been conducted by people who are not conversant with airport capacity assessment. He added, that the information furnished by the airport is incorrect, and the figures on the peak hour capacity are fabricated, and that the statements made by the company are not backed by proper study.
Justice S N Satyanarayana said, “Out experience is that the facilities at the airport are worse than Jatka stand. The airport lacks CAT III landing facility and second runway. We seem to have been taken for a ride. The airport is not up to the standard”.
The case was adjourned.
