Sullia, Jun 30: The sighting of a crocodile hatchling beside a petrol bunk in the late night hours of Sunday made the people of the temple town jittery.
River Kumaradhara flows near the spot from where the animal was found. It is believed that the hatchling would have come out of the river.
During the rainy season, River Kumaradhara is in full flow, and crocodiles sometimes reach the bank. The people are worried because of the chances of some crocodiles having reached the town along with the hatchling. Gram panchayat president, Dinesh B S, immediately informed the forest officials about the hatchling but by the time the staff came, the young crocodile had disappeared.
There are rumours about the sighting of a few crocodiles. The locals believe that the crocodiles might have joined the river on its route from Shiradi ghat.
