Panaji, Jun 30: The assembly constituencies represented by Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, health minister Vishwajit Rane and leader of the opposition, Digambar Kamat are amongst the areas worst affected due to COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
Valpoi Assembly constituency represented by Rane saw the first death on June 21 when an 85-year-old man died at ESI hospital, a specially designated facility to treat COVID-19 positive patients.
Morlem, a village where a spurt in the COVID-19 cases was witnessed resulting in declaring it as containment zone, earlier this month, is also a part of Valpoi Assembly constituency.
Sankhalim, the assembly constituency represented by Sawant, was safe from the infection till last week.
The first major case of infection in this constituency was reported when former Sankhalim MLA and former health minister, Dr Suresh Amonkar had to be shifted to ESI hospital after detecting positive for COVID-19 infection.
“The health conditions of Amonkar are stable now. He is being treated at ESI hospital,” Sawant told reporters on Monday.
Chief minister’s constituency reported 24 people who were tested positive for COVID-19 as on Monday. Sawant said that the extensive testing has begun in his constituency to avoid spread of the virus.
Margao Assembly constituency represented by leader of the opposition, Digambar Kamat, also has witnessed a spurt in the cases.
Moti Dongor, a slum area in his constituency, was declared as containment zone on Monday evening by the district administration, after several cases were reported from there.
“Moti Dongor has been declared as containment zone. There is restriction for the movement of people from that area. Health authorities have started extensive testing,” Kamat said.
Till Monday, seventeen (17) people were tested positive at oti Dongor area of Margao, as per a health bulletin issued here.
