Kolar: FIR against Udupi DC, others for accepting costly gifts at farewell

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolar (SP)

Kolar, Jun 29: With reference to an incident in which a silver mace and crown were presented to the then outgoing Kolar zilla panchayat chief executive officer and current deputy commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesha, at his farewell function, a first information report (FIR) stands registered against the Udupi DC, taluk panchayat executive officer, and nine panchayat development officers.

The said farewell had been arranged allegedly at the zilla panchayat auditorium at Kolar on August 23, 2019. Based on the complaint, Kolar chief district and sessions court has instructed Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Kolar district to hold an investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act and file a report of the finding in the court.

The complaint was filed by S Narayanaswamy from Kolar with the director general of Anti-Corruption Bureau along with documentary proof. The complainant has alleged that the farewell was arranged to the outgoing zilla panchayat chief executive officer and gifts were presented in the form of illegal gratification. He had, on June 17, 2020, urged the district court to investigate the matter.

The court has instructed the ACB to submit a report of its finding by August 25 this year.

The FIR has been filed against former zilla panchayat executive officer of Kolar G Jagadeesha, panchayat development officers K Mahesh Kumar, P Narayanappa, M Ramakrishna, V Shankar, H Samparaj, S G Harish Kumar, M Somashekhar, Ashwath Narayan M, Suresh Kumar, and Srinivasapura taluk panchayat executive officer H Anand. The FIR was registered under section 465, 467, 468 and 471 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Deputy superintendent of police M L Puruhotham, and police inspector G N Venkatachanalapathi, are the investigating officers.

Six government officials including outgoing deputy commissioner of Kolar, G Manjunath, have been named as witnesses.

In the past too, some people had made similar allegations. In response, on behalf of Panchayat Development Officers Association, a press meet had been organized in which an explanation was given claiming that the crown and mace had been hired for the function. As the case has now reached the court, the incident has again gained public attention.

The Bellary Reddy looted the Karnataka 'Boo tahi' and Rs 40 crown studded with diamond, platinum, silver and gold.

This is the Reddy who had most expensive wedding of his daughter, who was caught 'bail for sale' scam and found in the murder of Judge in Hyderbad.

Today the officer who worked tirelessly and ensure the safety of the Udupi District residence Covid free for months now booked for his good work.

DC Sir, auction this silver and donate the amount to the same panchyat for civil work like school, clinic or tube well. The expensive gift to the honest officer is good memories and good deeds.

1 kg silver costing Rs. 41000 only. Looks like people who didn't get favour from DC wanted to take revenge. If DC wants to make money he can make in millions.

Gifts act one must study in full. If he has not taken that gift to home, and have kept in office only , how it is treated as gift accepted. That point must clearly clarified. Our top leaders also while visiting foreign countries they receive many gifts and that they don't take home. That what I believe.

When compared to ex CJI accepting MP post and current CJI posing on costly bike registered to political leader, this is nothing.
Law must be equal for everyone. Some government buy the power with the tax money.

It might be a corruption, but he accepted it as a gift when getting transferred from that place.. and that too he was given the gift with love by people there... when there are so many MLAs and other political people who have grabbed unaccountable assets, why this small thing is being made a issue,... not only this even yesterday there was some news....

dont you think it is political driven... he is a very good dc with humble background. he understand the issues of poor and needy.. i have seen him work.... i have never supported any dc's till date but this person is the first one i am appreciating... i have not received any favour from him... but he has and is following rules and regulation.... few small mistakes here and there will be there as they are also humans.... bu my question is why back to back allegation on DC now.... i am sure he has gone against some politician...

We all know our DC is good, but he should have followed the rule of law, taking costly gifts is clearly a type of corruption, i am sure it is not so in this case, but rules cannot be framed differently for good officials and not good officials. Law is equal for all.

Costly gifts are indirect bribes. The givers and takers should be thoroughly investigated. The gifts should be seized, auctioned and distributed amongst the most needy during these difficult times.
