Mangaluru: Dr Rashmitha R bags six gold medals in Bachelor of Dental Sciences

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Dr Rashmitha R, a BDS student from SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital Dharwad, and daughter of Rathnakar Kunder and Sudha Rathnakar from Mangaluru, was looking forward to walking on stage on Thursday to collect the six gold medals she was awarded in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), the highest number of gold medals in BDS from RGUHS. But due to the pandemic she could not attend the traditional convocation ceremony held on June 25, at Bengaluru at NIMHANS Convention Centre and attended by governor Vaju Bhai Vala.

"I could not attend the convocation. It would have been a momentous occasion to receive the medals in front a huge audience and more importantly, my parents," she said.

Dr Rashmitha knew she would pursue medicine when she was in class 10, where she was impressed by gynecologist Dr Meenakshi Bharath. She secured a seat in BDS, and gradually came to like it. There is nothing like hearing the words: 'There is magic in your hands', she says about excelling in her practice. A school and college topper. Rashmitha a first generation doctor was born to Rathnakar couple.
