Karkala, Jun 25: Niranjan Bhat, accused in the murder of entrepreneur Udupi Bhasker Shetty was out on temporary bail. He arrived in Nandalike, Karkala and took part in the last rites of his father on Thursday.
Niranjan’s father, Srinivas Bhat had died on June 22. His last rites were held in the presence of family members and relatives on Thursday. While religious rituals were conducted at the Nandalike residence, the cremation was held at Brahman Sabha crematorium, Karkala.
Primary murder accused of late Bhasker Shetty, his wife Rajeshwari Shetty was also present. Though she did not appear in the open she remained in the car with tinted glass watching the proceedings. Two body guards were at the bus stand outside the Nandalike house. It was not clear if they were guarding Rajeshwari or were deployed for the security of Niranjan Bhat.
Niranjan Bhat who is facing charges of destroying evidence relating to the murder of Bhasker Shetty is likely to go back to jail after completion of religious rituals relating to the death of his father.
Local people have expressed anguish that none of the guidelines that are being followed by people due to coronavirus pandemic were followed here. There was no social distance among people and the relatives that arrived from Bengaluru were not subjected to quarantine. The officials remained indifferent.
