Mangaluru: Coronavirus affect - Fish trade halted at dock

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 25: As five persons dealing in fish have been infected with coronavirus, fishing business at the dock here has been suspended. This has resulted in fish shortage on account of which prices have moved upward. In all likelihood, the fish trade may be shifted elsewhere.

At the fishing dock here during the early morning hours, maintenance of social distance between wholesalers and retailers is a challenging job. The wholesale business has been stopped now. Fish trade may begin again only after the district administration notifies about it.

As fishing holiday is in place in the coast, those involved with fishing activity do not suffer much because of this step. But the disposal of the fish which arrives from different states gives rise to problems. So hike in the price of fish is on the cards, say people conversant with fish business.
