Beltangady, Feb 15: The Congress party led a protest against the state government for its spineless administration and the Mescom, for its unscheduled load shedding, by taking a procession through the streets of the town and laying siege to the Mescom office, on Monday February 15.
The protest procession, which began from the Block Congress office near the circle, reached the Mescom office through the bus stand. As if to add fuel to the anger of the protestors, the Mescom had resorted to power shut down on Monday morning too. The Congress Party activists, who took to the streets, waved lanterns and kerosene lamps, besides raising slogans against the government. Leaders, rather than the activists, were visible in large numbers at the protest programme.
Local MLA, Vasant Bangera, inaugurated the protest. He also sat for some time in the Congress office and gave a patient hearing to various problems and complaints referred to him. Party leaders, big and small, came in large numbers to support the protest, and delivered some speeches. A protest was also organized near the taluk office, against the failures of the state government, in issues like the revenue department functioning, rationing system, law and order situation etc.
MLA, Vasant Bangera, office bearers of the Block Congress Committee, zilla and taluk panchayat members, youth Congress office bearers, village leaders etc., took part in the protest.
