Gururaj Nayak
As Gururaj was injured badly, he went to the primary health centre at Brahmavar for treatment where the doctor referred him to the district hospital for scanning and advanced treatment.
It is said that Gururaj and the girl were in love. The girl’s parents had denied approval for the alliance. Hence, the couple got their marriage registered at Udupi in May. It is said that girl's uncle, Shivananda Rao, had issued death threat to Gururaj. The couple who got scared, had complained to Brahmavar police on June 15. The police had called Shivananda and his family members to the police station where a compromise was struck.
On Wednesday, when the couple was on their way home, Shivananda Rao and others suddenly blocked their way. It is said that they attacked Gururaj, duly accusing him of showing the audacity of marrying a girl from their family. Gururaj said that the attackers physically assaulted his wife too and behaved obscenely. They also chided Gururaj with derogatory words and hit him with a helmet and hands. Gururaj suffered deep injury on his head and was operated upon, it is said.
On the basis of a complaint made by Gururaj, a complaint stands registered against Shivananda Rao, Chidananda, Prathima, Nityananda, Divyashree and two others. All the accused have absconded, it is learnt.
