Bantwal, Jun 25: In an accident which happened at Benjanapadavu on the night of Wednesday June 24, the pillion rider of a two-wheeler was killed and the rider was seriously injured.
The accident took place within the limits of the traffic police station here, after a car collided with a two-wheeler.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamala (27), a resident of Kadegoli. Her friend, Harshitha, who suffered serious injuries, is being treated in a hospital.
The two-wheeler was being driven towards the Shyamala’s house at Kadegoli from B C Road through the Benjanapadavu road when a Maruti Swift car coming from the opposite direction collided with the two-wheeler at Benjanapadavu.
Both the rider and the pillion rider had sustained critical injuries in the accident. Although both were rushed to the hospital immediately, Shyamala breathed her last, without responding to efforts made to save her life, sometime later.
Both the ladies were returning home after their duty hours at the block resource centre office at B C Road when tragedy struck.
Melkar traffic police sub-inspector Rajesh, assistant sub-inspector Balakrishna and other staff visited the spot, inspected the accident scene and registered a case.
