Mangaluru, Jun 24: Video clips of patients accusing the Wenlock Hospital staff of not treating them properly and charging the hospital of not extending facilities to which are their eligible, are making the rounds in the social media. Three such clips are being circulated.
The video clips also contain pictures of dirt having fallen into drinking water utensil, glass of tea kept in the open, and used masks having been inserted to the toilet windows.
One of the clips shows a youth questioning the hospital staff about a tablet that has undergone a colour change to brown. A staff member wearing PPE kit is seen moving ahead after scolding the youth. The youth also is shown expressing dissatisfaction at the fact that aged people and youngsters are together kept in the same ward.

In response to the contents of the video, Wenlock Hospital superintendent, Dr Sadashiva Shanbhogue, said that infection has been confirmed in the case of some young men who have come from abroad. Even though they do not display symptoms of the disease, their test reports are continuously confirming the presence of infection. They want to return home but are frustrated on account of the result and hence are making false allegations, he reasoned.
Shanbhogue pointed out that 240 persons have been cured and sent home so far. He said that the doctors and other staff are risking their own lives in treating these patients, and expressed resentment at the false accusations being made against the doctors and staff just out of their desire to get discharged soon and go back home.
Clarifying the issue, district health officer (DHO) Dr Ramachandra Bayari spoke to Daijiworld and said, “We give the best service to the patients be it regarding food or hygiene. We have over 190 active patients and all patients will not have similar tastes. We will fulfill the small demands of patients such as providing hot water, facility to sleep among others. So far many who have discharged have called up and congratulated us for the services provided by our hospital.”
Regarding the complaint of single toilet, Bayari said, “There is nothing to be afraid of as all are positive tested patients. There are no single toilets for individual patients. If a positive tested person is among negative patients, then we have to worry. We are happy that some point out our loopholes and bring them to our notice so that we can change.
“When someone records a video pointing out our faults we cannot do much about it if it is not true. Some complained that we provide expired medicine. If the medicine is expired, let the person show the evidence,” he said.
On a complaint about a tablet that underwent a change in colour to brown, Dr Bayari said, “Different brands give different colour to medicines. But the content is same.”
