Mangaluru: Fish trade suspended for ten days at Bunder

Mangaluru, Jun 23: Wholesale fresh fish dealers have decided to suspend business for the next ten days. K Ashraf, president of the association of Mangaluru deck fresh fish dealers and commission agents on Tuesday has written a letter in this regard to the district deputy commissioner.

In the letter, Ashraf stated that the businesses will be suspended as several traders who conducted their business in the Bunder area are reportedly suffering from coronavirus symptoms such as cough, cold and fever since the last few days.

Some of the traders have got themselves admitted in hospitals for treatment. The wholesale dealers have requested the deputy commissioner to prevent and ban unauthorized traders from carrying out the fishing business from nearby areas of Ullal Kotepur, Hoige Bazar, Bengre, Farangipete, near VRL, Kudroli, Kallapu, Maripalla and other places during their absence.

    Like scrap business wholesale fish business has to be removed from clutches of group lobby. In scrap a group nexus of 20 jointly bid at half price of value after meeting in hotel where it is decided who will put winning bid & rest of 19 are paid commission, next tender the person who won previous tender cannot win & no outsiders newcommers are allowed to win.

    it is none of anybodys business to dictate terms. Let others carry on fish business. Many people want to have and use fish daily for their consumption. If the fish trad/business is closed then wahat would be the fate of fish consumers.

    I don't understand why other fish shoud suffer because of few fish getting covid. Is there any record of fish contracting corona virus?

    This seems to be a ploy by the handful guys who are known as Dakke mafia. They do not want others to enter the fish trade.

    What if some people have coronavirus infection? let them go to hospitals. What is the point in self-cancelling fish trade?

    Who is Ashraf? Is he boss for the fish business?

    Administration shoiuld not care these threats for the benefit of some.

    Seeing some comments asking vendors to go about business as usual sounds quite selfish. I dont think many here know the reality. The virus has spread consiserably amongst the fisher folk and they are not even healthy enough to operate anymore. Fish eaters who cant be without fish can eat some vegetarian food for a while until the virus is abated. Lets get a sensible and wise.

    Covid-19 is not only with fisherman ,,,, it may be with chicken , meat buisnessman ...it is not necessary to suspend all activity of fisherman .. those poor people earn day by day.

    In America and Europe, meat workers have the highest cases of Corona virus. This may be due to working condition. Fish trade also have the similar working environment. Maximum hygiene and social distancing need to be maintained in Bunder area.

    There is no need to suspend fish trade. Those who have corona go to the hospital and get treated. those who wants run this business let them go ahead with the business. Who is K .Ashraf to ask the authorities to take action on others who are carrying out this activity. If he has corona it does not mean that other fishermen has to suspend their activities.
