Unlock day 16: 8 new cases in Dakshina Kannada, one death; Udupi corona tally rises by 11 on Jun 23

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 23: On the 16th day of the easing of lockdown, 8 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while 11 fresh cases were detected in Udupi district on Tuesday June 23. One death also was reported in Dakshina Kannada.

In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 46,094 people have been screened so far, including 57 on Tuesday.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 12,251 samples have been sent for tests till date, out of which 11,619 have turned out negative, and 463 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 188 are currently active. As many as 256 persons have recovered and been discharged, and nine deaths have occurred so far.

As many as 6 patients, 5 males and one female who had delivered a healthy child some days ago, were discharged from Wenlock on Tuesday.

A 56-year-old man is serious and being treated in ICU.

As many as 286 samples were sent for testing on Tuesday. Reports of 142 samples were received on Tuesday, out of which 8 tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 179 samples are awaited.

Among the 8 corona-positive patients tested on Tuesday, there are 4 males and 4 females. Four among them have contracted the infection from P-8318, a 21-year-old male patient who tested positive on June 20, two with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and one with influenza like illness (ILI) symptoms have tested positive, and one who travelled from Kuwait, has tested positive.

A 70-year-old man died due to coronavirus on Tuesday there by taking the death toll in the district to nine. The man had arrived to Mangaluru from Bengaluru on June 7. He was suffering asthma and pneumonia. He had Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) symptoms and was hence admitted to Wenlock COVID hospital on June 12. The patient reportedly died without responding to treatment.

A total of 14 persons have been admitted for observation.

Altogether, 6,355 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. A total of 29 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) have been reported so far.

Udupi

As many as 11 people including four children tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district on Tuesday. Among the 14 patients, seven are males and four females. Five are Maharashtra returnees, two have travelled from Kuwait, one each from Dubai and Saudi Arabia, one has contracted infection from P-2047, and the source of infection of one more patient is being traced.

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,868 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 11 on Tuesday, and a total of 4,870 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 4 on Tuesday. As many as 702 persons are currently in home quarantine.

A total of 80 people are in isolation wards, including 10 fresh admissions on Tuesday. Among them, two are coronavirus suspects and four each have SARI and influenza-like illness.

As many as 937 people, including 7 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 13,626 samples have been collected so far, including 202 on Tuesday, out of which 29 are COVID contacts and 94 are COVID suspects. Out of them, 12,182 samples have turned out to be negative, including 47 on Tuesday, and 356 reports are awaited.

As many as 1,088 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, out of which 978 patients have been discharged so far including 11 on Tuesday, and 108 cases are currently active. Two deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
