Mangaluru, Jun 23: For the first time in Dakshina Kannada district, a coronavirus patient was identified with the help of Aarogya Setu app, it is said.
Initially suspicion was aroused about a youth selling fish at Yekkur here of being a coronavirus patient. Later, tests confirmed that he is actually a patient. Surprisingly the fact that he was infected with coronavirus was found by his neighbours even before the health department officials came to know about it. They got this information on account of Aarogya Setu app.
The app issues alert when a person with COVID symptoms is nearby. The neighbours, based on this alert, questioned the youth, who agreed that he had such symptoms. Thereafter, health department officials were alerted. The people are unhappy about the person for concealing his condition.
It is said that the youth aged 27 used to visit Bunder here to procure fish. From there, he used to visit houses to sell fish. Now, those who bought fish from him are worried. During the analysis, the health department staff realised that he got this infection from another coronavirus positive person and that the youth had contact with the said coronavirus positive person.
District health officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy, said that the youth was subjected to test on Sunday. The result is stated to be positive. The department is now trying to find out the details of persons with whom the youth had contacts in the recent past.
