Udupi, June 23: District citizen committee and Swacch Bharath Friends held a cleanliness programme near the martyred soldier’s memorial here on Monday, June 22. The joint committee activists collected empty liquor bottles left behind by drunkards and asked the concerned to dispose of them. Nagarika Samithi convener Nityananda Olakadu, co-convener Taranath Mestha Shirur, Swacch Bharath Friend’s Raghavendra Prabhu, Karvalu Jaycee Udupi city former president Jagadeesh Shetty and Udaya Naik took part.
Bhujanga Park in Ajjarkadu is the place where senior citizens and children visit for fresh air and a clean environment. However, people are scared to venture there due to drunkards. Their meetings are taking place at nights through consuming liquor in public places is banned. It is illegal to conduct such activities in a martyred soldier’s memorial. People have expressed anguish in this connection. The activists of the joint organizations have urged the district administration to appoint a security person, arrange police patrol, lighting and security to the people visiting the park.
