Kasargod: Heap of mud caves on youth during construction of house, kills him

Kasargod, Jun 22: A young construction worker was killed here as he was buried alive under a huge heap of mud that caved in when the mud was being removed from a stormwater drain that resembled a tunnel.

The incident happened near Seethangoli, Kumble here while tunnel work was in progress in the premises of the house belonging to a private person in Kodimoole, Mukharikanda on Monday afternoon. The deceased was Perla Katukukke resident Harshith Kumar (38).



Harshith Kumar was assigned the contract for the work. As the tunnel was filled with mud, it was being removed using JCB for the flow of stormwater since the morning. Meanwhile, mud from the top of the tunnel caved in. The remaining people ran from there to safety.

Harshith Kumar got stuck under about 15 ft deep heap of mud. Fire service personnel and local people retrieved the body after struggling for about two hours. Kumble station police conducted an inquest. The dead body was taken to Kasargod general hospital for post mortem.
