Corona scare in Vijayapura: 37 cops under quarantine after arrested dacoits test positive

Vijayapura, Jun 21: Police personnel of the the district, who were applauded for arresting a band of dreaded dacoits, are have been placed under quarantine after two of the arrested persons tested positive for coronavirus.

In addition, the prison staff where the arrested dacoits have been kept are also facing the possibility of contracting coronavirus infection. In total, 37 police personnel have been placed under quarantine now.

Police belonging to the Indi subdivision of the district had arrested three accused in connection with the robbery of a couple that occurred on June 12 under the Alamela police station limits of Sindagi taluk. The cops had also seized Rs 8.35 lac in possession of the accused.

The accused were produced on the same night before the Sindagi magistrate at his residence and were sent to judicial custody. However, it is now confirmed that two of the accused, identified as patients P-8307 aged 36 and P-8308 aged 27, have tested positive for coronavirus.

Giving details of the whole episdode, Anupam Agarwal, SP of Vijayapura said that the accused were kept separately in the central prison of the district as per the orders of the court. All the police personnel and prison staff who were in contact with the accused are under quarantine now for the same reason.
