Bengaluru, Jun 20: A writ petition stands filed in the state high court, seeking to entrust investigation into Amulya Leona Noronha case to National Investigation Agency (NIA). Amulya faces the charges of sedition for raising slogans hailing Pakistan during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest organized at the Freedom Park.
The petition has been filed by H L Vishala Raghu, a Mandya-based advocate. It is yet to be taken up for examination.
The petitioner has alleged that Upparpet police who registered the case and the investigating officer have not yet filed charge sheet in the case within the stipulated period. "Taking advantage of legal provisions, the accused has secured bail now. Therefore, the government should be directed to suspend the investigating officer from service, and to seek cancellation of bail granted to her,” it was demanded in the petition.
In the meanwhile, the government has appointed I S Pramod Chandra as special public prosecutor to argue the above case on behalf of the government against Amulya Leona.
