Moodbidri: Another gaur strays into human habitat - Dies of ill health

Moodbidri, Jun 19: An Indian gaur that was apparently ill, died in Kallabettu area of Moodbidri on Thursday June 18 morning.

The animal was sighted since some days in areas like Kallabettu, Karinje, Neeralike etc. For two days, it remained at Neeralike. The locals had informed the forest department about the animal. The forest department officials had informed the wildlife division at Shivamogga about the development.

A wildlife team led by veterinarian, Dr Vinay, went to Neeralike but by then the gaur had died. The team had planned to observe the animal for a day before starting treatment. The postmortem was conducted and it was buried on the spot, said forest officer Prakash Poojary. It is said that the animal died of botulism bacterial infection.
