Kundapur, Feb 12: At about 8 pm on Thursday February 11, some lawyers voiced their resentment at one of the judges of the local court, who they claimed, had been delaying signing of a compensation cheque favouring one of their clients.
“Shivappa, a client from distant Badami, has been waiting for his compensation cheque since the last three days. The only thing that needs to be done is to sign the cheque and deliver it to Shivappa. As the judge concerned has been dithering in the matter, Shivappa, a poor man, has been made to wait for the cheque since the last three days. If the people who are expected to deliver justice behave this way, what can we expect of the ordinary people?” a concerned lawyer, Shiriyara Gopalakrishna Shetty, questioned.
Other advocates, Kalavar Udaykumar Shetty, Shashidhar Shetty and Salwady Niranjan Hegde also voiced similar sentiments regarding the incident, expressing surprise at the turn of events that have adversely affected the poor man. They said, they fail to understand the purpose behind this delay, duly posing a warning that they will organize suitable protests, if the clients coming from other districts are neglected by delaying release of compensation amounts due to them.
