Mangaluru, Jun 17: Dakshina Kannada district Congress spokesperson, A C Vinayaraj has termed the state government's decision to amend the Land Reforms Act as an anti- farmer initiative.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday June 17, Vinayaraj said, "During the oath taking ceremony, chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, was seen wearing a green shawl signifying his support to the farmers, but now the decision to amend land reforms act is a move that is anti-farmer. This move which makes way for non-agriculturists to acquire farmland is said to be aimed at favouring the investors," he stated.
"Chief minister B S Yediyurappa stated that farmland will fetch a better price, while revenue minister, R Ashok, came up with different statements relating to amending the land reforms act, which has created lot of confusion in the minds of the people and this indicates that the government will put farmers into a state of landlessness," he claimed.
"APMC act and land reforms act are two sides of the same coin. Taking advantage of the lockdown, the state government has brought an ordinance to APMC act without holding any discussions. Now they are in the process of bringing another ordinance to amend land reforms act. Congress is demanding to withdraw the decision to amend the act," Vinayaraj asserted.
