Bengaluru: Council election - Deve Gowda plans to field Govindaraj

Bengaluru, Jun 17: In a surprise move,  JD(S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda, has made up his mind to field party leader from Kolar, Govindaraj, for the council election. The party is eligible to field one candidate.

Party leaders, Kuplendra Reddy, who is vacating his Rajya Sabha seat, and T A Sharavana, who is retiring from the council, were eying this seat. Names of former MLA, N H Konareddy and Ashok Pujari who was fielded by the party from Gokak but was defeated, had also emerged as front runners.

On Tuesday, some leaders from Kolar district went to Deve Gowda's residence at Padmanabhanagar here and urged him to issue party ticket to Govindaraj. It is said that on Monday, MLA K Srinivas Gowda, had told Deve Gowda that the party will have bright prospects in Kolar district if Govindaraj is given the ticket. These things have made Deve Gowda decide to issue a ticket to Govindaraj, sources said.
