Sullia: Gang attacks four people transporting cattle for dairying

Sullia, Jun 17:gang assaulted four persons who were transporting two cows and a calf for raising them. The incident happened on Monday night at Duggaladka in the taluk.

Manoj, son of a Dalit leader, Anand Mittabail from Kadaba Kombaru village, Lokesh from Kadaba, Sirajuddin from Mardhala and Sachin from Sullia Gandhinagar came under attack from the gang. The attackers have been named as Devanath, Latish, Shiva, Devaraj, Dhananjay and Ganga from Duggaladka. 

Sullia police have registered a case against these six persons. At the same time, the police took into custody four persons in a pick-up van, accusing them of transporting cattle in a violent manner. They were released later.

Details: Manoj had bought two cows and a calf for Rs 11,000 from Sachin of Navoor on Monday evening. They reportedly were being taken to his house at Kombaru, Kadaba, with help from friends, Sirajuddin and Sachin, in a pick-up van which was driven by Lokesh. When the vehicle reached Duggaladka at around 7 pm, a gang intercepted the vehicle, assaulted the people inside, and abused them by mentioning their caste affiliation, it is said.

A case under the Prevention of Atrocities against SC and ST Act has been registered against the assaulters. The accused are absconding.

Puttur deputy superintendent of police Dinakar Shetty visited the spot and collected information. He asked the police officials to arrest the accused and initiate legal steps immediately.
