Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 16: On the 9th day of the easing of lockdown, as many as 79 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while the number of cases in Udupi district reached 1035, with 7 new cases on Tuesday June 16.
Almost all the cases in both districts were among returnees from Saudi Arabia and Maharashtra.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 44,716 people have been screened so far, including 136 on Tuesday.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 11,069 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which 10,639 have tested negative, and 378 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 201 are currently active. As many as 169 persons have recovered and been discharged, and eight deaths have occured so far.
As many as 11 patients, all male, were discharged from Wenlock on Tuesday.
As many as 84 samples were sent for testing on Tuesday. Reports of 296 samples were received on Tuesday, out of which 79 tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 329 samples are awaited.
Of the 79 who tested positive on Tuesday, 75 persons, including a two-year-old girl, arrived from Saudi Arabia on various dates, and three from Maharshtra. The Saudi returnees include four preganant women. Another patient, who has been diagnosed with influenza-like illness, is a resident of Puttur.
All of them have been admitted to Wenlock.
As many as 86 persons have been admitted for observation.
A total of 5,808 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Tuesday, 28 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported. As many as 106 people have been screened in mobile fever clinics.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,800 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 24 on Tuesday, and a total of 4,856 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 585 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 79 people are in isolation wards, including 9 fresh admissions on Tuesday. Among them, one is a coronavirus suspect, while 5 have SARI and three influenza-like illness.
As many as 865 people, including 11 on Tuesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 12,999 samples have been collected so far, including 84 on Tuesday, out of which 14 are COVID contacts. Out of them, 11,862 samples have turned out to be negative, including 27 on Tuesday, and 102 reports are awaited. As many as 1,035 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 7 on Tuesday. As many as 885 patients have been discharged so far, and 149 cases are currently active. One death has occured so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
All the seven cases reported on Tuesday consist of people who returned from Maharshtra.
