Ballari, Jun 16: After the home guard volunteers beat up a 16-year-old boy admitted into a remand home at Devinagar here, he breathed his last. The youngster was admitted into the remand home relating to a case registered against him under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The boy from Koppal district had been brought to the remand home on Sunday June 14. A home guard volunteer on duty there, along with two former home guard volunteers started a quarrel with the youth and then assaulted him, it is said.

When the wardens went to serve dinner, they found that the teenager was seriously ill. When officials of the women and child welfare department rushed to the spot, they found that the boy was no more. A case in this connection was registered at Kaul Bazar police station here.

The police have taken two of the accused into custody and are interrogating them. Various organizations are demanding to register a murder case against the home guards and arrest them immediatley.
