Kalaburagi, Jun 16: The district again witnessed an incident of stone pelting at corona warriors on Monday June 15. Even as the memory of attack on ASHA workers in Chittapur taluk is fresh in the memory of the people, another such incident happened in Kamalapur taluk of the district on Monday.
The attack was aimed at doctors, ASHA workers, and health department staff. It is learnt that a police vehicle, ambulance, and two other vehicles were damaged in the incident.
As many as 14 among the migrants who returned to their hometowns from Mumbai have tested positive for coronavirus. As such, the health department staff, accompanied by some policemen, had visited the Tanda where they reside on Monday.
At that time, residents of the Tanda unexpectedly started to throw stones at the government vehicles, it is said. In the stone pelting, windshields of the police vehicle, an ambulance, and vehicles used by the health department employees, were shttered. Some of the doctors, ASHA workers, health department employees and police personnel suffered minor injuries in the stone throwing incident, it is being claimed.
When police personnel visited the spot, an attempt also was reportedly made to attack them too. Senior police officials visited the spot and scrutinized the situation.
Deputy commissioner of the district, Sharat B, has expressed strong resentment at the development. He has warned that such incidents will not be tolerated and those who attacked corona warriors will be dealt with sternly. Recalling that such an incident had happened in the district sometime back, he said that those behind this act will face strong measures. He reassured the corona warriors that the district administration is committed to extend protection to them.
