Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 14: Heavy rains are lashing twin districts since the past few days. The trend continued on Saturday also.
Heavy rains were reported from Bantwal, Vittal, Kanyana, Puttur, Uppinangady, Beltangady and surrounding areas of Dakshina Kannada district. Mangaluru city area received good rains on the morning of Saturday. Later in the day, rain was scattered and there was also sunshine towards the evening.
In the district of Udupi, heavy rains with thunder and lightning were experienced throughout the day at various places of Kundapur, Karkala, Kaup, Brahmavar and Byndoor taluks.
Balebar Ghat
Vehicular traffic got affected on Kinningaru-Bellur road on the evening of Friday as a huge tree fell across the road due to the strong wind. The tree was removed by police and fire service personnel.
Traffic got affected on Balebar Ghat on state highway that connects Kundapur-Shivamogga as a tree fell across the road. It is raining heavily since two days in Kundapur taluk and areas of Western Ghat. Due to this a tree fell across the road at a little distance from Hosangadi. This caused heavy traffic jam on both sides. The tree was later removed by the forest officers of Siddapur zone and Amasebailu police. Public and vehicle drivers also joined hands with forest officials and police in removing the tree from the road.
Orange alert is announced by the Indian Meteorological Department for coastal districts on June 14 and 15. There is a possibility of 115.6mm to 204.4 mm rain in the coastal belt on these days.
