South Asian Games: India Win Two Golds, One Silver in Shooting


Dhaka, Feb 7 (IANS) Indian shooters reigned supreme as they grabbed both the gold medals at stake Sunday in the shooting competition of the 11th South Asian Games.

India also bagged a silver as the shooters took their total to 17 gold, nine silver and four bronze medals on the penultimate day of the shooting competition at the National Shooting Complex range, according to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

The 15-year-old Tejaswini Muley was the star Indian performer clinching both the gold medals including one in the team event.

In the women's 50m three position (3x20) individual event, Tejaswini shot 568 out of 600 to win gold.

India's Hema Khatri Chetri got the silver after the second place was decided in a shoot-off with Bangladeshi Sabrina Sultana. They were locked with scores of 564 each and in the shoot-off, Hema shot 47.2 to pip Sabrina for the silver medal.

A cumulative score of 1687 by Tejaswini, Hema and Anuja Jung (555) earned India the second gold in the team event of 50m three position. Bangladesh (1669) and Sri Lanka (1654) took the silver and bronze, respectively.
