Beltangady: SDM lecturers develop sensor-powered automatic sanitiser dispenser

Beltangady, Jun 12: Coronavirus pandemic has been resulting in certain new innovations. One such innovation has emerged from SDM Polytechnic functioning at Ujire, a rural place.

The teaching staff here, who have been inspiring students to come up with innovations, prepared automatic hand sanitiser dispensers which are easy to use. The price of this dispenser is much less than the dispensers available in the market and they can be used by individuals, organizations and institutions.

The dispensers now available in the market have certain drawbacks besides being costlier.

The dispenser the college has prepared is a machine which runs on electricity. It functions through ultrasonic sensors. When one holds his palm across a specific point in the machine, the sensor senses the presence of hand and sprays the sanitizer. Therefore, there is no need to touch the machine. These machines are available almost at the same price at which foot-operated santiser dispensers are sold.

The principal of the college K P Prasad said that the idea stuck when thinking about the need to avoid touching the sanitiser bottles. Dharmasthala Dharadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade checked the dispenser and expressed his appreciation. He encouraged the concerned to come up with more inventions.
