Panaji, Jun 11: As the need for more beds for coronavirus patients mounted, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced that a new COVID care centre would be constructed at Verna. The centre will have 200 beds, the CM said.
With this new facility, the state will have 450 beds in COVID care centres and ESI hospital already has 220 beds.
He also stated that of the total Covid cases, as of June 9, 21 patients were symptomatic and rest were all asymptomatic. The asymptomatic patients, he said, can’t be termed as patients. Therefore, all asymptomatic patients will be shifted to care centres.
He said two of 21 symptomatic patients had to be given oxygen but none are in need of ventilator support. "The ESI hospital is well-equipped and has dialysis facility," he said. He said as of June 9, 57 people outside Mangor hill but linked to the containment zone were detected with COVID-19.
